Quick definition

SmoothEye is a non-surgical periocular (around-the-eye) rejuvenation treatment using a non-ablative Fotona Er:YAG laser (SMOOTH mode). With protective eye shields in place, it gently warms the upper and lower eyelid skin and crow’s-feet area to stimulate collagen for firmer, smoother skinwithout needles or surgery and without breaking the skin surface. SmoothEye treats fine lines, crepey skin and mild laxity; significant excess eyelid skin or true eye bags are referred for a surgical opinion honestly. Minimal downtime, typically delivered as a short course of sessions.

SmoothEye is a doctor-led, non-surgical treatment for the delicate skin around the eyes. It uses a non-ablative Er:YAG laser to gently heat the eyelid and crow’s-feet skin, stimulating your own collagen for firmer, smoother periocular skinwithout needles or surgery.

At The Skin Doctor, SmoothEye is assessed and planned by Dr Chris, with protective eye shields used throughout and an honest steer toward a surgical opinion where eyelid skin is genuinely excessive.

Best for

  • fine lines and crepey skin around the eyes
  • mild laxity and loss of firmness of the eyelid skin
  • early crow’s feet and under-eye texture
  • a no-needle, non-surgical option for the eye area

How SmoothEye works

SmoothEye uses a non-ablative Er:YAG laser in SMOOTH mode. Rather than removing the surface, it delivers controlled warmth to the eyelid and crow’s-feet skin to trigger a collagen-stimulating response, firming and smoothing the area over the following weeks.

Because it works through your own collagen, results are gradual and build over a course of sessions.

What SmoothEye can and cannot do

We think it is important to be clear:

  • It can improve skin quality, fine lines and mild laxity of the eyelid skin.
  • It cannot remove significant excess skin or fat pads — that is the territory of eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty).

If your concern is heavier hooding or true eye bags, we will tell you honestly that a surgical (oculoplastic) opinion is the better path rather than over-promise with laser.

Results and course

  • subtle firming and smoothing build over weeks to months
  • typically a short course of sessions spaced a few weeks apart
  • maintenance sessions help preserve the result

See the Results timeline below for typical milestones.

Downtime

Most people have only mild redness or slight puffiness for a few hours up to a day, and can return to normal activities quickly.

Why choose The Skin Doctor

  • doctor-led assessment with protective eye shields throughout
  • honest referral for a surgical opinion when laser is not the right tool
  • conservative settings tailored to the delicate eye area
  • often combined within a wider facial plan such as Fotona 4D

What to expect

  1. Consultation and eye-area assessment

A consultation with Dr Chris to assess the periocular skin, review your medical and ophthalmic history and any prior eye-area treatments, and set realistic goals. The laser approach is explained, and significant excess eyelid skin is referred for a surgical opinion honestly where appropriate.

  2. Preparation and protective eye shields

The area is cleansed and baseline photographs are taken. Protective eye shields are fitted — eye protection is essential for any periocular laser work.

  3. Er:YAG SMOOTH-mode laser sequence

SmoothEye uses a controlled non-ablative Er:YAG laser (SMOOTH mode) applied to the upper and lower eyelid skin and crow's-feet area to gently heat the tissue and stimulate collagen, firming and smoothing without breaking the skin surface.

  4. Cooling and aftercare

Soothing, SPF and written aftercare. Most people leave with only mild redness or slight puffiness.

  5. Follow-up and course planning

SmoothEye is typically delivered as a short course of sessions a few weeks apart for the best collagen response, with maintenance discussed based on your result.

Results timeline

  • Immediately Skin around the eyes may look a little firmer from mild warmth. Any redness or puffiness usually settles within hours to a day.
  • 2–4 weeks Early collagen response — subtle smoothing of fine lines and improved firmness of the eyelid skin.
  • 3 months Fuller collagen remodelling becomes apparent after a course of sessions — refreshed, firmer periocular skin.
  • 6–12 months Maintenance phase. Results are gradual and not permanent; periodic top-up sessions help preserve them.

Ideal candidate

  • Fine lines and crepey skin around the eyes
  • Early laxity and loss of firmness of the upper and lower eyelid skin
  • Mild "crow's feet" and under-eye texture
  • People wanting a non-surgical, no-needle option for the eye area
  • Patients seeking collagen-supported tightening rather than surgery
  • Those comfortable with gradual change over a course of sessions
  • Realistic expectations — SmoothEye refreshes periocular skin; it does not replace eyelid surgery for significant excess skin

Frequently asked questions

  • Is SmoothEye safe around the eyes?
Periocular laser must be done carefully and with protective eye shields in place — eye protection is essential. SmoothEye is non-ablative, so it does not break the skin surface. It is assessed and planned by Dr Chris, and we refer for a surgical (oculoplastic) opinion honestly when there is significant excess eyelid skin that laser cannot address.
  • Will it get rid of eye bags or hooded lids?
SmoothEye improves skin quality, fine lines and mild laxity of the eyelid skin. It does not remove significant excess skin or fat pads — that is the territory of eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty). If your concern is heavier hooding or true eye bags, we will tell you honestly that a surgical opinion is the better path rather than over-promise with laser.
  • Is it painful?
Most people describe gentle warmth rather than pain. SmoothEye is non-ablative and settings are tailored to your comfort. Protective eye shields are worn throughout.
  • How many sessions will I need?
SmoothEye is usually a short course of sessions spaced a few weeks apart for the best collagen response, followed by maintenance. The exact plan is set at your consultation.
  • What's the downtime?
Minimal — most people have only mild redness or slight puffiness for a few hours up to a day, and can return to normal activities quickly.
  • Can I combine it with other treatments?
Yes. SmoothEye is often part of a wider plan and pairs naturally with the Fotona 4D facelift or collagen-stimulating treatments. Sequencing around any recent eye-area injectables is planned at consultation.
