Wellness

Doctor-led wellness care at The Skin Doctor in Melbourne. Longer- format wellness consultations exploring fatigue, sleep, stress, nutrition and inflammation. Doctor-prescribed IV vitamin therapy and pathology-led iron infusions in a monitored clinical setting. Evidence over trends, with personalised plans rather than generic drip-bar protocols.

Quick definition

Wellness at The Skin Doctor is a doctor-led pathway for fatigue, recovery, energy and general wellbeing — distinct from “drip bar” wellness models. It has three components: longer-format wellness consultations (exploring sleep, stress, nutrition, deficiencies and inflammation together), doctor-prescribed IV vitamin therapy in a monitored clinical setting, and iron infusions provided only after pathology confirms deficiency. Every service is individualised, medically supervised and built on evidence rather than trends. Suitable when oral supplementation is insufficient or poorly tolerated, for post-illness recovery, burnout, brain fog or pathology-confirmed iron deficiency.

Wellness consultations

Our wellness consultations go beyond a brief check-in or symptom-based appointment.

During your consultation, your doctor may explore:

  • fatigue, energy levels and concentration
  • sleep quality and recovery
  • stress load and nervous-system balance
  • nutrition, hydration and daily habits
  • inflammation, deficiencies and general health markers
  • skin health as part of overall wellbeing

This consultation is suitable for patients who want to:

  • improve energy, focus or mood
  • recover from prolonged stress or burnout
  • address recurrent fatigue or “brain fog”
  • understand whether deficiencies or lifestyle factors are contributing to symptoms
  • receive clear, medically guided advice rather than generic wellness plans

Your plan may include targeted supplementation, lifestyle optimisation, skin-supportive care and evidence-based medical therapies where appropriate.

IV vitamin infusions

Our medical IV vitamin infusions deliver carefully selected vitamins, antioxidants and hydration directly into the bloodstream for predictable absorption.

IV therapy may be appropriate for patients seeking support with:

  • low energy or mental fatigue
  • immune resilience
  • recovery after illness, stress, travel or physical exertion
  • skin hydration and radiance
  • general wellbeing when oral supplementation is insufficient or poorly tolerated

All IV infusions are:

  • prescribed by a doctor
  • administered in a clinical setting with appropriate monitoring
  • tailored to your medical history and goals

Safety and suitability are assessed before treatment.

Iron infusions

For patients with confirmed iron deficiency, we provide doctor-prescribed iron infusions in a monitored medical environment.

Iron deficiency can contribute to:

  • persistent fatigue
  • reduced exercise tolerance
  • poor concentration
  • hair shedding
  • reduced immune resilience

Iron infusions are offered only after appropriate assessment and pathology — ensuring treatment is necessary, safe and effective. Pathology typically includes iron studies (ferritin, transferrin saturation) with CRP for interpretation.

A doctor-led approach to wellness

Every wellness service at The Skin Doctor is overseen by qualified medical professionals.

We prioritise:

  • careful assessment before treatment
  • evidence over trends
  • personalised recommendations over off-the-shelf protocols
  • safety and appropriateness at every step

Our aim is to help you feel better and function better, with clarity about what is — and is not — likely to help.

Frequently asked questions

  • Do I need a consultation before IV vitamin therapy?
Yes. A medical consultation is required so we can confirm IV therapy is appropriate and safe for you, and so the formulation can be tailored to your medical history, current medications and goals. We do not provide IV infusions on request alone — every infusion is doctor-prescribed and administered in a clinical setting with appropriate monitoring.
  • Can wellness care really help with fatigue or brain fog?
In selected patients, yes. Addressing sleep quality, stress load, nutrition, micronutrient deficiencies and underlying inflammation together — rather than as separate one-off complaints — can significantly improve fatigue, concentration and overall function. Wellness consultations are longer (typically 60 minutes) precisely because the answer is rarely a single supplement or one short visit.
  • Are IV vitamin infusions safe?
When prescribed appropriately and administered in a medical setting, IV vitamin infusions are generally safe. Suitability is assessed beforehand — we check medical history, current medications and any allergies, and we use formulations and concentrations supported by clinical evidence rather than trend-driven blends. Significant adverse events are uncommon when the right patient receives the right infusion.
  • Do you offer iron infusions without blood tests?
No. Iron infusions are only provided after pathology has confirmed iron deficiency (typically with iron studies including ferritin, transferrin saturation and CRP to interpret correctly). Iron infusions in the absence of confirmed deficiency carry unnecessary risk — including iron overload, allergic reactions and skin staining at the infusion site — without clinical benefit. If you suspect deficiency, the first step is a doctor visit and blood test.
  • How long does an IV vitamin or iron infusion appointment take?
IV vitamin infusions typically take 45–75 minutes from cannulation to completion depending on the formulation. Iron infusions take 30–60 minutes for the standard intravenous iron preparations we use, plus a monitoring period afterwards. Plan to be in clinic for at least an hour. We use our infusion lounge at Ivanhoe so the experience is comfortable.
  • What's the difference between your IV therapy and a "drip bar"?
Doctor prescription, clinical setting and individualisation. Drip bars typically offer fixed off-the-shelf blends with minimal medical assessment. Our IV vitamin therapy is prescribed after consultation by a doctor, the formulation is matched to your medical history and clinical context, and it is administered in a monitored clinical environment by trained staff. The downside is that it is not an instant walk-in service — but the upside is significantly higher safety and clinical appropriateness.
  • Can wellness care help me recover after a long illness, surgery or burnout?
Recovery support is one of the most common reasons patients book wellness consultations. We assess what is actually driving the prolonged recovery — deficiencies (iron, B12, vitamin D), sleep disruption, ongoing inflammation, deconditioning, mental load — and build a structured plan rather than reaching for a single supplement. IV vitamin support may be part of the plan when oral absorption is the bottleneck, but it is rarely the whole plan.
  • Do you offer wellness telehealth or in-person only?
Initial wellness consultations are in-person — we want to examine you, review pathology in detail and discuss the plan thoroughly. Follow-up reviews, prescription consultations and results discussions can usually be done by telehealth. IV vitamin and iron infusions are always in-person at our Ivanhoe infusion lounge.
